Washington State Supreme Court Dissolution Task Force Final Report

Washington State Supreme Court Dissolution Task Force . Dec. 1, 2008
http://www.courts.wa.gov/content/PublicUpload/Supreme%20Court%20Dissolution%20Task%20Force/Supreme%20Court%20Dissolution%20Task%20Force%20Report-December%202008.pdf

This report was produced by the Washington State Supreme Court Dissolution Task Force, whose mandate is to "develop statewide protocols for dissolution cases" (p. 1). The report addresses systemic problems of dispute resolution and concludes that there is no need for "major changes" to laws regarding alternative dispute resolution, but rather there is a need for an increase of resources to courts that are adopting dispute resolution procedures "that meet best practices standards" (p.7). The report outlines five service areas - courthouse facilitators, court orientation classes, Family Law Handbook, parenting seminars, dispute resolution centers and Unified Family Courts - and states that the legislature should increase funding for mediation and dispute resolution centers, among other recommendations. The report also discusses sexual violence and domestic violence training curricula, parenting evaluator standards and the establishment of the Statute 201 Program.
