Section 20-124.4 states that in any appropriate case the court shall refer the parents or persons with a legitimate interest to a dispute resolution evaluation session. A history of family abuse should be considered when determining the appropriateness of a case for mediation. Fee to the mediator shall be $100 per appointment and will be paid by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
