Virginia Judicial Settlement Conference Program Statistical Update as of July 1, 2010

These statistics provide information about the Virginia Judicial Settlement Conference Program from 2003 to present. Since 2003, 5,250 cases were referred to the program and 3,885 cases were 'captured and detailed.' Of the 3,885 cases, 22.5 percent were commercial, 33.5 percent were domestic, 39.5 percent were tort/personal injury and 4.5 percent were miscellaneous. Additionally, 61 percent of cases reached agreement and the average conference length was 3.4 hours. These statistics also include information about referrals from circuits throughout Virginia and party satisfaction with the process: of 3,785 participants who completed exit interviews, 99.6 percent said they would recommend judicial settlement conferences and 99.4 percent said they would request to participate in a settlement conference in the future.
