This report examines the need for the mediation of child dependency cases and outlines the most important issues to keep in mind when designing such a program. These issues include appropriate case types, appropriate issues, the timing of referral to mediation, funding and the need for strong judicial leadership. The report then recommends guidelines for establishing a child dependency mediation program in Virginia.
