Berrien County was one of six Michigan demonstration projects established to test court consolidation (combining circuit, probate and district into one trial court with three divisions - civil, family, and criminal). The author reviews evaluations of other similar programs and gives a thorough background of the Berrien County program. This study focused solely on the goal of expediting case disposition. It found that the settlement plan showed no significant alteration in disposition rates. The author makes recommendations as to how consolidated courts can use ADR more effectively to produce more rapid case disposition.
