According to this chapter, guardians and attorneys ad litem, as well as amicus attorneys, have the duty to "encourage settlement and the use of alternative dispute resolution" for disputes involving the children they represent. Additionally, in suits where the court must decide whether to appoint a guardian ad litem, an attorney ad litem or an amicus attorney in the best interest of the child, those interests must be balanced against the cost for the appointment as compared to that of alternative methods to resolve the dispute.
