This report reviews the case statistics and state funding for community mediation centers in North Carolina. In the 2009-2010 fiscal year, the 23 centers received a total of 13,216 referred cases from local courts, including criminal and juvenile courts. Of those, 8,418 cases were mediated, and 7,619 mediations (58%) reached settlement. The centers also received 7,193 non-court referrals, and mediated 3,871 of those cases. Of those mediations, 3,846 (99%) reached settlement. The centers received almost $1.2 million in funding from the state government. This funding accounted for 18% of the centers' total revenue for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. The report estimated that the centers, through their court mediation and Medicaid Appeals mediation programs, saved the state $26 million during the fiscal year.
