This organization works at continuously improving the administration of justice in the state and federal courts. It describes itself as a 'non-partisan educational and research organization.' One of the main activities of the Institute is an annual series of seminars for state and federal appellate judges. With the Federal Judicial Center (FJC) and ABA Appellate Judges Conference, the institute also offers a skill-based workshop for new federal and state appellate judges. It also offers a seminar for experienced judges each year, the objective being to expose appellate judges to 'cutting-edge' developments in legal theory, jurisprudence, quantitative methods, criminology, and law and economics. Finally, the institute has begun to support research and conferences on issues of global significance.
