Children's Court Mediation Program Evaluation Report & Mediation in Abuse and Neglect Case Evaluation Report - July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009

New Mexico Administrative Office of the Courts; Baca-Sena, Louise M.; Berry, Teresa A.; Carrillo, Nancy . Sep. 18, 2009

This report evaluates the New Mexico Children's Court Mediation Program, a partnership between the New Mexico Administrative Office of the Courts and the Children, Youth and Families Department, whose "primary purpose of the Children's Court Mediation Program is to assist in meeting goals of permanency, child safety and child well-being by providing services at all stages of child abuse and neglect cases, both legal and pre-legal" (p.2). The program served in all judicial districts in fiscal year 2009, and 693 cases were referred to the program. Data for this evaluation was drawn from case records, feedback forms, surveys and secondary sources and the report addresses issues of time in mediation, attendance, satisfaction, the effectiveness of mediation and agreement levels. The report recommends improving stakeholders' understanding of the process and standardizing mediation practices.
